ABOUT THE WINE
Sequoia Grove is one of Napa Valley’s most revered estates, founded in 1979 and nestled in the Rutherford Bench — a legendary stretch of land famed for its complex soils and ideal conditions for growing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. The area’s unique mix of alluvial loams, limestone, chalk, and volcanic soils led pioneer André Tchelistcheff to famously say, “It takes Rutherford dust to grow great Cabernet.”
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a showcase of this terroir: a wine of depth, structure, and exceptional aging potential, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and matured in premium French oak barriques.
TASTING NOTES
This bold yet refined Rutherford Reserve Cabernet offers intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, mulberry, and blueberry, with layered notes of strawberry jam, eucalyptus, and a hint of fresh spice. The palate is full-bodied, rich, and silky, with chocolatey tannins and lingering flavours of cocoa, tobacco, and clove from expertly integrated oak. A wine with power and finesse, ideal for cellaring or enjoying now with decanting.
FOOD PAIRING
A superb match for Southern BBQ ribs, lamb shank casserole, or chili con carne. The richness and structure also pair beautifully with ribeye steak, braised short ribs, or mature cheeses.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Surrounded by some of Napa’s last remaining majestic sequoia groves, Sequoia Grove is not only a legendary estate but also home to Napa Valley’s first underground cellar. This Reserve Cabernet is a true expression of Rutherford terroir and one of the region’s finest.
